Promptster comes in two products. Pick the one that matches what you’re doing.

Promptster for Hiring

Assess candidates on a coding task. Candidates run the promptster CLI during a take-home; hiring teams review the session. You’re a candidate or a reviewer.

Promptster for Teams

Understand how your own engineers use AI, with source code never leaving their machines. Engineers run the promptster-teams CLI. You’re on an internal engineering team.
The two products use different CLIs — promptster for hiring, promptster-teams for teams — and coexist cleanly if you have both. If you were sent a PST-XXXX-XXXX key you’re a candidate (Hiring); a PSE-XXXX-XXXX key means you’re an engineer (Teams).

How Promptster for Hiring works

Hiring team creates an assessment

Define the task brief, role, and time limit. Generate candidate keys to distribute.

Candidate redeems their key

promptster start PST-XXXX-XXXX sets up the workspace and configures Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor to capture the session. In the default managed mode the AI is routed through Promptster, so the hiring team covers the cost.

Candidate completes the task

They work normally. Promptster captures prompts, file diffs, commands, and the decisions they explain with /explain.

Candidate submits

promptster done uploads the workspace, closes the session, and returns a private replay link.

Hiring team reviews

Browse the session timeline, read the candidate’s decisions, and examine the AI Fluency rubric to evaluate engineering judgment.
For hiring, Promptster only captures activity inside the assessment workspace and AI coding tool. Keystrokes, screen contents, clipboard, browser activity, and environment variables are never recorded. Session data is retained for 30 days. See Privacy & Data.
